Babysitting...

So, I spent the day making sure the girl my roommate got smashed after halftime (like...2PM) didn't choke on her tongue, alongside her roommates, after he went back out to finish partying with his friends from out of town.

Not my responsibility, but I obviously have a better sense of priority than him. What's worse is I can't even stand the girl. I like all of her roommates, so I felt bad that my roommate was basically bailing her on them. I could've went out with them to the casino, but that would've been shitty.

Now, I'm trying to get drowsy enough to sleep. Getting up to work 6-11 at McD's. Today was a beast. I also worked 6-11 today. Tailgating for todays game pretty much started at 7:30 and didn't stop until the moment I left. So, pretty much 3 hours of constant work without a moments rest.

Strangely, it was pretty fun...

So, how have your evenings been?

I can't sleep....

Damn my roommate!

And his ladyfriend!

And our couch!

And the faint noises in the other room keeping me up!

And...the sound of the clinging of the zipper to my sleeping bag?! OH HELL NOES!!!

One Month...

Yesterday marked the one full month at CMU.

Yep, a whole month living on my own. To tell the truth, it's been really nice. I've met a lot of cool people: my roommate Mike, Alan, DJ, Nichole, Avery, Megan, other Nichole, and Alyssa are most of the people that I hang around with. From sharing stories of our past (crew and confessional booths, mostly) to making visits to Lil' Chef and Claire, MI, for the most part there's a lack of dull moment.

Still, I can't but feel a sense of isolation up here. It's definitely different from Greenville. The city is just that hellhole I never really wanted to leave. Besides what's going on with Dad and Ashley, I have no idea what's going on with anyone. It kinda bums me out not being able to go to school with my usual set of friends, let alone hardly hearing from them at all since I've gotten here.

Well, there's still Durga. He calls me at least once a week and we usually find something to say for a good 20 minutes, which is nice.

Oh well...

Best... Birthday Gifts... Ever...

Turns out my roommate is turning 19 tomorrow. Me and Mike went out to buy him some nice things. Our first stop was the nice Mexican restaurant down the road. We got him a $20 gift certificate to La Senorita!

After that....NOVELTY STORE (TJ now works at one in Houghton (talked to him last night, finally))!!!

We got him:
  • Candy handcuffs
  • Rough Rider condoms
  • Jenna Jameson Playing Cards
He's still at home, so we immediately showed his girlfriend down the hall, along with her roommates. They all got a kick out of it.

Hopefully he likes all of it.

The day before...

Boring early day, improved during the night.

The morning pissed me off a little bit, considering I got a 15.5/25 on my Calc2 homework and my roommate, who went to a total of FOUR CLASSES in the last four weeks, got a 23/25. Grr...

Cinema class was alright. All we did was takes some notes and watch a video over the Hollywood style. My Bio Lab was bad for me. We first started off doing an experiment over probability...using a mini-roulette table! I spent the rest of the day wanting to drive to the casino.

After class, I spent much of the day writing up my paper for Freshman Comp. I was hanging around in one of the rooms down the hall...and Chris Finch showed up and asked if I wanted to go to an Astrology Open House. I had nothing better to do, so I tagged along.

I got to see Jupiter and the Ring Nebula from telescopes outside, and the Moon REALLY CLOSE UP from the observatory on the roof of the building. Awesome, especially since I could move where the giant telescope was focused!

After that, we walked to the market, where I got cheesy breadsticks and a half gallon of OJ, which I drank throughout the night in people's rooms.

Started up a game of Apples to Apples. It kinda sucked having clever cards and playing with a group that wouldn't pick any of the good ones, but it was still fun. My roommate and his buddy showed up. His buddy sat on my lap and said something...can't even remember...but my response was, "Ew, your breath smells like Coors!"

I was right, too!

Later, we got to hear what he said to some cute ladies walking by him as he walked ('staggered' might be a better word) back to our hall. Something about their rate of walking and if they increased it they'd be walking at the same rate. Drunken story problem pickup lines?

At about 1AM, Mike and I decided to call it a night, so I get on the lappy...and I get a call from DJ, who asked me if I wanted to go to Lil' Chef, the 24-hour restaurant right next to campus. So, Mike and I walked over with DJ there. Apparently, Lil' Chef is also the place to go if you just got booted from the bar after midnight. We saw a bunch there...and it was hilarious. One lady got bitched out by her friend, walked out of the restaurant, came back WITH MCDONALDS, and sat back down. While Mike was having a smoke break, he overheard one of the best quotes ever from some lady passing by with her friend:

"I wish I hadn't slept with so many guys because it keeps getting awkward seeing them everywhere!"

After that, we walked back, told Helen Keller jokes to each other, and went off to bed.

College = The Shit.

Calmed Down...

I am doing better than Monday. That was just a terrible day to be me...

The last couple days have been good. I've played Hold 'Em for the first time with a big group (lost first, but that's in part that I tried to bluff everyone with a 2-4, and my roommate was the only one who didn't buy it...). I played Apples to Apples with my roommate and all our friends in Woldt. It's been good...

Saturday is my last day at Remus McD's, then I move onto the McD's across the parking lot from my building. That'll be good. In the amount of time it takes to get to my car, I could go from my room, to this new McD's, and back. It's THAT bad!

In Bio, we've been talking a lot about overpopulation and how it's a critical issue. I'm thinking that in a few days, I'll be writing up a new rant about the matter. I've needed to get a good rant out.

Well, I really need to get to bed. So long, y'all...

Quitter...

I can't handle this.

Since Thursday, I've been trying to answer the same exact problem. All I'm able to do is stare at the paper with only a feeling of complete frustration. I love math. I love numbers. I love problem solving using algebra and complex theorems.

I, Chris Coston, the alleged Math Freak-of-Nature, am at a roadblock. I've hit my limit.

There's people in my class that are just as confused as I am, sure...but I also know there's people that have a stronger grasp than me at it. I've tried for so long to figure out what I could do with complex mathematics as a career without being some teacher/professor that just passes on the same knowledge to the countless masses...but I can't. This lesson on trigonometric substitution in integration has made this clear.......I mean seriously, when will I EVER apply this stuff?!?!

Instead of my Math/Stat major, I'm deciding to just go with Statistics. The thing that scares me, though, is if I take my stat classes and DON'T like them...I'll a sophomore in college who thought he had everything mapped out and ended back at Square One.

I'm sick of this lesson, I have an exam in two weeks, and I'm about ready to have an aneurysm.

Shoot me.

Back to Other Home...

Cyanide and Happiness, a daily webcomic

I've missed this place, really.

So, I drove home Friday and tried to adjust back to Greenville. It was nice driving down the streets, but I wasn't thrilled to see Ashley had effed with my room. I liked the way it was. ;__;

Went to the football game. Hung around Ryan, Jesse, and Greg. Mostly talked about the post-high school life. It was pretty fun, especially since we all felt a tad out of place since we've moved on past GHS.

The next morning, I went to work with Dad. I forgot my shoes back here, so I had to wear my chucks (I looked all sexy-like!)

Now, Saturday was by far the strangest day I've had in a long while. So, there's a girl at work named Val. She's been emailing me a bit since I've left and even taken me to the movies before. Nothing happened then, but anyways...Saturday, she was talking to me a lot and said that we should go to dinner at Applebee's. Now, I was more than willing to go with her, but I doing what I did when she suggested we'd see a movie: say 'naaaaaah!' and then bring it up later and make plans.

In that in-between time, my Dad ended up coming up to me and pretty much saying, "You said no?! WTF!?!" and proceeded to tell me that I should take advantage of these certain opportunities whenever I come home. I found that to be a bit funny...

Anyways, so we set up plans and I go home to get around. I later found out that Dad and Ashley were watching her kids while we went out (Oh, BTW, she's a 21 year old single mother).

We go to Applebee's, eat dinner, have a good time, and decide to go back to her place to watch Troy. Good movie...or at least what I was able to watch of it...

Ok, so the reason I didn't get to see it was because she had to pick up her kids because one's a diabetic who had to get his shot and we had to wrap up the movie early. Or at least PART or the reason why I didn't get to watch all of it. >_>;;

All in all, pretty fun night.

Coming home today...

After my two classes today, I'm heading home! I'm really excited! Going to the game, tonight (7:30, right? I can't remember when they usually start...), then work 8-2 on Saturday, do absolutely nothing in the evening, work 8-1 Sunday, then go home.

Hmm...maybe this isn't really all that exciting of trip back...

After this, I don't plan on coming back until sometime late in October for my family's Halloween party, which I don't even plan on being in town for, so I really hope that a lot of people come to the football game tonight.

I might be bringing my roommate. I said it'd be cool if he came, but who knows...

I'm officially transferring over to the McDonald's across the parking lot. WOO!

Tired as hell. I got 5 hours of sleep, just as I planned. I ended up getting back to my room about 3:30am. I spent all that time all the way down the hall in another room. We watched American Beauty, which I haven't seen in full since it came out on VHS. I got horribly depressed at the end, minutes before the actual depressing scene took place. I love Kevin Spacey. Brilliant actor.

Him and Edward Norton...oh god...

Anywho...I'm going to get ready for class, now. Sure, it doesn't start for another hour, but a hot shower seems really...REALLY necessary.

So long, farewell...

[EDIT: FSCK! My ears won't quit ringing. Y'know that hot shower? Well, I got out of the bathroom, and it triggered the fire alarm. Help desk called to make sure we were alright, which we were. The stupid lady didn't know how to reset it from downstairs, so it was blaring for about 10 minutes. Ooowww...

;_;]

Gotta Catch 'Em All...

So, who totally wasted $45 today buying video games, one being the new Pokemon Pearl for the DS? MEEEE!!!

Feeding the nostalgia...

Some things worth mentioning:

  • Explaining the 'virginity in a confession booth' story to my roommates, followed by who Carter thought should have one 'Most Changed Since Freshman Year'.
  • Trying to get a job at the McD's right next door to my building, rather than 3 miles away. Gonna ask for a transfer by saying I'm having "Car Trouble".
  • Walked around in the pouring rain for about 15 minutes getting from my car to the building.
  • Guy standing out in the lobby area with a poster board with "FREE HUGS" on it.
  • Having one of the best conversations ever:
DJ: Well, I have to leave soon. How else will I masturbate to Chris's face?
Me: Psst...*points to bathroom*...$20 for a Money Shot!
DJ: Sweet!
Nichole: Wait...what's a Money Shot?
Mike: Is that like an Angry Pirate?
Me: Yeah, but you don't kick her in the shin and run!
  • Getting banned from Avery's room for my typical sense of 'flattery' alongside Mike...
  • Yeah, we'll leave it at that...
  • Having one of those moments when you are sitting outside in the rain, looking out around the campus, and then wanting some kind of narration to run through your head to describe how life could possibly be so...perfect...

Best Part About CMU Football Game...

I was walking by the student section, looking for people I knew. Unfortunately, it's hard to pick out a handful of people in a 22,031 crowd, but what I did find was something just as good.

After I gave up, I watched two people greet each other...by doing "Ride That Pony"!

"Front to front to front, my baby
Side to side to side, my baby,
Back to back to back, my baby,
THIS IS HOW WE DO IT!"

Of course, I'm not sure if anyone remembers this from regionals...but it was funny as hell to see it again.

Homesick...

I'm starting to miss home a tad bit. I mean, college is excellent, easily one of the greatest experiences in my life...but I can't help but miss aspects of Greenville. Everyone was in such a rush to get out of there and leave our hellhole. I like that hellhole; it's very cozy.

I miss a lot of things right now. I miss the people at work and all of the crazy things that go on. I miss my basement where everything is pretty much perfect where it's placed. I miss Radcliffe and Chapman, school and crew. I miss Dad, Ashley, Grandma, and Nikki.

However, there's one person that beats out all the rest (sorry, Nikki, you got beat out on that one). Right now, I really miss TJ (Again...sorry, Nikki....but this time I'm apologizing for the fact that SKINNY-BITCH beat you...).

I find it strange that I miss him. I mean, we hardly saw each other, anyways. We didn't work together much, we only had one class together (1st semester Social Studies with Fedder my Freshman year), and this summer was pretty much the only time we've EVER hung out together on a regular basis since we met in the 7th grade.

And yet...work seems dull with out his random insanity...and watching movies with college people reminds me of how we'd constantly quote movies and people would just look at us with "WTF" written all over their faces.

I just wish he was here right now, so I could look him right in the eyes and ask, "So, TJ...what's a tournament?"

Saturday...

Saturday is our game against Toledo at 7PM. Dad and Ashley are coming up around 4 to watch the game and walk around town with me. I'm not too familiar with stuff outside of campus, but Dad and I were just talking on Y!...

chris: I can show you around, but I'm not sure what to show
Dad: Show me your favorite bars and strip joints.
chris: WE CAN GO TO O'KELLY'S [Irish Bar & Grill]!!!
chris: I think I have a $5 coupon...
Dad: the women are to old there
chris: Oh well, they're Irish!
Dad: and drunk
chris: And feisty!
Dad: and drunk
chris: And Irish!
Dad: and feisty
chris: And redheads!
Dad: sweeeeet
chris: Hahahaha

Ahh...it's hard not to miss him...

'Ello, again...

Cyanide and Happiness, a daily webcomic

The weekend is done, and it pretty much sucked royally. I've been sick since Thursday with a nasty cold that just doesn't want to go away. I've bought Halls and Sudafed Nighttime...but alas, it's still clinging to me.

I managed to get MOST of my homework done (By 'done', I obviously mean half-assed and incomplete), so I'm happy about that. Becky's party was fun, even though I felt terrible and sleeping on a dirty floor surrounded by a dozen people prolly wasn't the best thing to do with my cold.

I finished House - Season 3, also. I was excited to watch the episode 'The Jerk'. Not because it's my 3rd favorite episode, but because I got to hear the line 'awkward teenager who can't get girls because he's creepy'.

It made me laugh a little...

Well.....'bye! Gotta catch up on all that I've missed since Thursday...this may take a while...

Oh yeah...September.
